Even before my trip to Kalmykia, I firmly intended to get acquainted with the local traditional cuisine. I even had my eye on a national cafe for acquaintance, which had already been tried by my friends and acquaintances.
This is not an advertisement for this cafe. This is, first of all, a story about the Kalmyk cuisine that we tried in this establishment. However, the cafe is called “Kalmyk Kitchen”.
The national cuisine of the Kalmyk people is very simple and satisfying. You eat during the day - you don’t need to have dinner in the evening. The Kalmyk cuisine reflects their traditional pastoral lifestyle. Mostly dishes consist of milk, meat, lamb and beef. There is a lot of meat in all dishes. And local tea is always with milk, like in England.
