The harm and benefits of boiled peas

For people who are watching their weight, it is important to know how many calories are in the foods they eat. The calorie content of boiled peas is only 60 kcal per 100 grams. When heat treated, its benefits to the body are practically not reduced. Its nutritional value is 1.5, and in comparison with some, 2, times higher than that of other vegetables.

It is not recommended to eat peas in any form for acute nephritis, gout, inflammation of the intestines and stomach.

If you have a duodenal or gastric ulcer, you should limit its use. To prevent increased gas formation, pea soup and other dishes should be cooked with carrots and eaten with black bread. If you follow simple rules, the harm from peas will be insignificant. But how much benefit does it bring?

Required Products

To make a tender pea soup for children, peas can be soaked in water in advance. It is better to take a domestic meat breed of chicken. For the recipe we need the following products:

  • split peas – 300 g;
  • chicken broth (secondary) – 2 l;
  • carrots and onions – 1 pc.;
  • salt - to taste.

Please note: potatoes are not used for the classic recipe. But if you really want, you can chop 1-2 tubers, while reducing the amount of peas.

Why is it useful?

All legumes, including peas, are rich in protein, vitamins and microelements necessary for the development of a child. But the benefits of pea soup for children and adolescents are not limited to this:

  • promotes functional development of the brain;
  • activates the nervous system, relieves whims and nervousness;
  • gives strength and energy, therefore it is recommended for physically active children;
  • is a source of high-quality vegetable protein and an alternative to meat in vegetarian families;
  • a mandatory ingredient in the soup – carrots – serves as an additional source of beta-carotene;
  • the presence of onions helps protect the baby from infections and strengthens the immune system;
  • masks the presence of healthy vegetables that many children do not like;
  • recommended for dermatitis caused by pyridoxine deficiency;
  • has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system;
  • contains microdoses of selenium, a strong antioxidant.

Making the broth

To make the soup aromatic and beautiful, the meat should be placed in cold water. Place the pan over medium heat, cover with a lid and remember to turn off the noise from time to time.

For children's menus, secondary broth is preferred. It is better to drain the first one (it can be used when preparing any dishes for adults). You also need to refill the meat with cold water. The secondary broth is more transparent and tender.

Borscht recipe for a child who is already one year old

The peculiarity of this soup is that we will cook it without adding cabbage. This is a common cause of bloating and abdominal pain.

What you will need:

  • 100 g beef or pork,
  • 1 potato,
  • ½ carrot
  • ¼ onion,
  • ½ medium sized beetroot
  • greenery,
  • salt to taste

As you can see, the rest of the list of products fully corresponds to what we use when cooking regular borscht for adults.

How to cook

Place the meat and all pre-peeled but not chopped vegetables into the pan.

Cook over low heat after boiling for about 45 minutes. After this, remove the meat and vegetables onto a plate, and be sure to strain the broth.

Place finely chopped potatoes into the purified broth and add salt.

After 10 minutes, grate the boiled beets. Then carrots, and then chopped onions.

Now we cut the cooked meat and also put it in the broth.

Cook for 15 minutes. After this, the borscht is ready.

Add chopped greens and pour into plates. For a child who is under one year old, the soup can be seasoned with sour cream.

How to cook peas correctly

At the same time, while the broth is cooking, you can start preparing the peas. Rinse it thoroughly and drain the water. Fill with cold water (half a liter) and cook over low heat. The procedure will take at least an hour.

Some housewives add soda at this stage to make the peas boil faster, but if you are planning to make pea soup for children, this component is highly undesirable!

Skim off any floating white foam with a slotted spoon. When boiling, be sure to stir the peas so that they do not stick to the bottom of the pan.

Useful tips

Children are allowed to give pea soup only after one year. Still, peas are a heavy product. But if you decide to take a risk, it is better to grind the soup with an immersion blender to get a thick, homogeneous puree.

If the child is already several years old, then you can add pieces of meat to the dish. You can boil it separately, or you can make soup directly using the same meat. Then simply chop it into cubes or take it apart into fibers. You can grind it.

Pea soup is delicious and very healthy! Incredibly satisfying, nutritious, absolutely everyone likes it without exception. Bon appetit!

Making soup

To get the same pea soup as in kindergarten, you need to grate the carrots on the finest grater you have. Chop the onion as finely as possible with a sharp knife.

Carefully pour the hot broth into the cooked peas (not vice versa!) and mix thoroughly. As soon as the future soup boils, add vegetables to it. Reduce the gas to low and let the soup simmer for about half an hour.

Cut the chicken meat into cubes or tear it with your hands, separating it along the fibers, and also add it to the pan with pea soup.

The recipe is simple, as you can see, there is nothing complicated in it. All that remains is to wait for the final boiling of the vegetables and add salt to the dish to taste. If desired, you can add a little young greenery to it.

If there are no very small children among the tasters of the dish, you can lightly fry the vegetables first. To avoid spoiling the delicate taste, use butter rather than vegetable oil. In this case, the soup will cook faster.

Preparation:

1.

Technological map No. 29.

2.

Below is the technology for preparing potato soup with green peas as in kindergarten.

3.

This soup can be cooked in water or with the addition of chicken (beef). My version is with chicken. It is better to remove the skin from it.

Boil water in a saucepan and add chicken. I always add a little stalk celery for flavor. Cook the chicken until cooked, then remove, cool and divide into small pieces. Select and discard celery.

4.

While everything is cooking, peel the potatoes and do all the preparatory work.

According to the technology of peeled potatoes, you should get approximately 300 grams. If the potatoes are young (that’s what I had), then the losses will be minimal. So you can safely take 370-400 grams.

Place the peeled potatoes in a bowl and cover with cold water. Peel the onions and carrots. We cut the first into small squares, and you can easily grate the carrots.

Sauté the vegetables. To do this, add both types of oil and onion to a heated frying pan. Keep the heat low. After a minute, add carrots there. Stir, add 4 tablespoons of water and cook covered until half cooked for about a couple of minutes.

5.

Cut the potatoes into small cubes.

Drain the water from the peas and weigh and measure out the required amount. Be careful - eat regular, canned peas for soup. It is tougher and tasteless. We are talking specifically about tender canned peas; in addition to the peas themselves, they contain salt, sugar and water.

6.

In the broth (chicken aside for now) add chopped potatoes, vegetable contents of the frying pan, peas and cook everything until fully cooked. And in terms of time, the soup will be absolutely ready in ten minutes. At the end, about a minute or two before the end of cooking, add the shredded chicken and add salt.

7.

A spoonful of sour cream (directly on everyone’s plate) and a little chopped herbs will never harm such a soup. And despite the fact that these ingredients are not in the technological map, I allowed myself to add them (after the photo shoot). And you can see how you want!

Pea soup on the children's menu

Before you prepare delicious pea soup for your baby, it’s worth finding out some details about this dish. Peas are not a product that can be handled intuitively. It should be introduced into the diet with caution.

At what age can you give pea soup? From one and a half years, if the baby is absolutely healthy. If the baby has problems with the gastrointestinal tract, you should wait until two years. For the first complementary feeding, use soups prepared with vegetable broth or water, but not with chicken broth.

Soups fried in oil and cooked in meat broth should not be given to children before they reach the age of four. A rich pea soup with smoked meats or hunting sausages should be offered to a child no earlier than 6 years old.

Soups cooked with bone broth are not suitable for children's menus. Use tender chicken meat, preferably breast. If you plan to cook broth from thighs, first trim off the skin and fat from them.

Such complementary foods should be introduced with great caution. Under no circumstances should you create a children's menu that combines two or more dishes made from legumes. If you plan to treat your baby to pea soup for lunch, there should be no dishes with beans for dinner and breakfast. On this day you should also avoid fish, nuts, and sausages.

Note in your food diary the amount of soup and how your baby’s body reacted to the new dish. Start with one spoon, gradually increase the amount. You need to introduce your child to a new food in the morning, not before bed. If the child likes the taste of such a first course, after a while it will be possible to introduce pea puree into his diet.

If you are offering a dish for the first time, and then, for the first time after introducing it to the menu, pea soup should be ground through a sieve. Even if your baby is a confident chewer, do this. The fact is that in this form the product is much easier to digest.

Use good quality polished split peas to make the soup. Rinse it thoroughly before cooking.

What should not be included in pea soup for children?

Preparing this dish for a child is a whole science. No, there are no difficulties. But some knowledge is needed so as not to harm the baby. Since ancient times, peas have been eaten in Europe, America, the Himalayas and China. Our ancestors not only consumed it as food, but also used it as a medicine. Hippocrates also used it to treat diseases of the thyroid gland, heart, obesity and anemia. In Rus', peas were revered and many dishes were prepared with them. How many of them have survived to this day and how many more have been lost is difficult to say.

Today this product is practically forgotten. How many different vegetables appeared on sale and peas were crowded out of the tables. In addition, many are afraid of the peculiar action of peas associated with increased gas formation. Although this is more of an exaggeration than a pattern.

In the Middle Ages in France, peas were present on the table not of peasants, but of kings. And in Tibet and India, a recipe for thin pea soup was popular to restore strength to the sick.

People believed back in ancient times that peas remove excess fat and bile from the body. And this is confirmed by modern research.

In the 19th century, pea sausage was prepared in Germany, which was included in the diet of soldiers. Not only soup was prepared from it, but also stew, porridge, pea jelly and pudding.

Peas were used for medicinal purposes:
