It's no secret that Italians love to cook simple dishes, and fried mozzarella is their traditional snack for any time of the day. Fried cheese dishes are quite common in many countries, and they are prepared differently everywhere, adding various local seasonings and spices.

I tried fried cheese for the first time while traveling in the Czech Republic and fell in love with this unusual dish. And now sometimes I use this method of making cheese when I’m really hungry and there are no other foods in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • Mozzarella cheese – 500 g;
  • Egg - 2 pcs.;
  • Milk – 2 tbsp;
  • Wheat flour – 2 cups;
  • Breadcrumbs - 2 cups;
  • Salt - to taste;
  • Vegetable oil.

To prepare breaded mozzarella cheese, you need to prepare the ingredients according to the list.

Drain the mozzarella in a colander and leave for 1 hour. Then cut into small slices.

Roll the cheese in flour.

Beat the eggs with salt with a fork and dip the cheese slices in them.

Then roll the mozzarella in breadcrumbs.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the cheese until golden brown.

  1. To make fried mozzarella, combine eggs and water (about ¼ cup) in a small bowl.

For such a simple recipe, only 3 main products are taken. The cheese in it is complemented with flour and eggs.

What ingredients will you need?

For the dish you need to take:

  • Dutch cheese - 270-300 g;
  • egg – 1 pc.;
  • flour – 30-35 g;
  • oil (any vegetable), salt.

Salt is an optional ingredient in this recipe. Usually there is enough of it in cheese. But you can add more according to your taste.

Step-by-step cooking process

The cooking process includes several stages:

  1. You need to start the process with cheese. It is processed with a grater with the smallest divisions and poured into a bowl convenient for mixing.

  2. Next, you can add the contents of the raw egg and the remaining dry ingredient to the cheese shavings. If salt is used, it should also be added at this stage.
  3. After thoroughly mixing all the products, you need to form neat cheese sticks and place them in a bowl with heated vegetable fat.

The treat will be fried until golden brown and lightly golden. To prevent the dish from turning out too greasy, first place the chopsticks on paper towels; they will absorb excess oil.

What can I add?

You can add any spices to the cheese mixture if you wish. For example, pepper, granulated garlic, sweet paprika.

The finished sticks can be served either hot or already cooled. Sweet or spicy sauce will complement the dish perfectly.

Let's start cooking

  1. Heat sunflower oil in a deep frying pan.
  2. Mix bread crumbs with grated cheese, aromatic garlic, chopped parsley and oregano.
  3. Take three medium-sized containers, beat the eggs in one, place the flour in the other, and pour the mixture of crumbs and spices into the third.
  4. Dip each piece of mozzarella first into the flour, then into the egg mixture, and then into the breadcrumbs.
  5. Carefully add the breaded cheese to the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 45 to 60 seconds.

Serve fried mozzarella with tomato paste or garlic sauce. Use basil and rosemary as additional spices.

To keep it simple, we're making fried mozzarella sticks with mozzarella cheese sticks (though you can buy block mozzarella and cut it into sticks if you prefer).

Remove the cheese sticks from their wrappers, then place them in the flour/egg/breadcrumb mixture and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Ingredients:

  • 0.5 liters of vegetable oil;
  • 200 g mozzarella;
  • 200 grams of white bread (or breadcrumbs);
  • 2 eggs;
  • 70-80 grams of flour;

  • salt, pepper to taste.

Homemade recipe

  1. Remove the mozzarella from the refrigerator and leave at room temperature for 15 minutes. Dry the mozzarella balls thoroughly with a napkin to remove excess moisture. If the pieces of cheese are too large, first cut them into medium-sized cubes (about 3*3 cm).
  2. If you use white bread, it is advisable that it is already stale. To do this, you need to leave it on the table for a day. Then cut half the loaf into small pieces and grind everything in a blender until crumbly. Place the bread crumbs/breadcrumbs on a flat plate.
  3. Beat the eggs into a small container, pour in the milk, add salt and pepper to taste and beat with a fork/whisk until smooth. Pour flour into a separate plate. Heat vegetable oil in a cauldron, deep frying pan or deep fryer.
  4. Roll a piece of mozzarella in flour, then dip in the egg mixture and roll in bread crumbs. Immediately after this, place the mozzarella ball into the boiling oil. Fry the mozzarella with the oil simmering for about 15-30 seconds.
  5. Remove the finished ball from the oil with a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel to absorb excess fat. Bread and place the next piece of mozzarella in the oil. Fry it until cooked and transfer to a paper towel.
  6. Prepare the rest of the cheese this way. If desired, you can add chopped herbs or a clove of garlic to the egg batter. Fried mozzarella is delicious both hot and cold. Bon appetit!

Main conclusion

Fried mozzarella is perfect for breakfast with aromatic coffee - this is my favorite meal. Very often my breakfast consists of freshly brewed Jardin coffee and mozzarella according to one of my recipes.
