Pearl barley porridge as a side dish in a slow cooker

A dish prepared according to this recipe can be used as a side dish for both meat and fish dishes. Ingredients: 1.5 multicooker cups of pearl barley, onion, 3.5 multicooker cups of filtered water, carrots, salt.

  1. First, the pearl barley is soaked in hot water for half an hour.
  2. For now, you can saute vegetables in frying mode in butter. First, only onions, and then in combination with grated carrots.
  3. The washed cereal is placed in a “smart pan”.
  4. All that remains is to add salt to taste and add water.
  5. In pilaf or boiling mode, the treat is prepared for 40-45 minutes.

After the signal, the side dish will be heated for another 12-15 minutes.

With added meat

Any meat will do (pork, beef). Ingredients: 370 g of meat, carrots, salt, onion, 5 multicooker glasses of water and 2 glasses of pearl barley, a pinch of a mixture of peppers and a special seasoning for pilaf, a couple of bay leaves.

  1. First, the meat, cut into pieces, is fried in any oil in the oven bowl. It is immediately salted and sprinkled with spices.
  2. Next, in the frying mode, the meat is cooked together with chopped vegetables for 8-9 minutes.
  3. The washed cereal is poured on top.
  4. Heated water is poured into the container and bay leaves are added.
  5. With the lid closed, the treat can be prepared even in baking mode.

Barley with meat is cooked in a slow cooker for 45-55 minutes.

How to cook delicious barley with stew in a slow cooker?

If you are missing something in the classic recipe, try supplementing the barley and stew with vegetables - the most accessible ones would be tomatoes and green beans. Be sure to leave the traditional onion-carrot frying and don’t forget to brown the pearl barley before cooking: this will provide the finished dish with an amazing aroma and crispness. If desired, you can serve pearl barley with stewed meat with sour cream.

Ingredients:

  • pearl barley – 400 g;
  • stew – 500 g;
  • tomatoes – 250 g;
  • carrots – 200 g;
  • green beans – 150 g;
  • onions – 2 pcs.;
  • salt – 1 tsp;
  • a bunch of dill;
  • butter – 20 g;
  • water – 750 ml.

Cooking method:

  1. Rinse the cereal under running water and pour boiling water for 10 minutes. - this way you will get rid of possible bitterness and soften it a little.

  2. Place a piece of butter on the bottom of the multicooker, turn on the “Baking” mode and do not lower the lid.

  3. Peel the onion and chop it with a knife. Pour into the slow cooker when the butter is melted.

  4. Peel the carrots and grate on the coarse side of a grater. Add to the onions when they start to become translucent.

  5. Cut the green beans into pieces 1.5-2 cm long, add to the onion-carrot fry after 4 minutes. Using the same setting, brown it, stirring occasionally with a spatula.
  6. Throw pearl barley to the vegetable part. Without closing the multicooker, heat it for 7 minutes, also turning it over periodically.
  7. Add the stew, mashed with a fork, and diced tomatoes. Add salt, pour in water, throw in chopped dill.
  8. Close the multicooker and switch the operating mode to “Porridge”. The dish will be ready in about an hour.

Recipe for cooking with stew

For this dish, the cereal needs to be soaked in cold water overnight. Ingredients: 2 multicooker glasses of pearl barley and 2 glasses of filtered water, 1 can of any stewed meat, carrots, any aromatic herbs, onion, salt.

  1. In the frying program, conveniently chopped vegetables are fried until golden brown.
  2. Next, add the entire contents of the can of stew to the onions and carrots. Together, the components simmer in a similar mode for 8-9 minutes.
  3. The washed cereal is poured over the frying and water is poured out. The mass is salted and sprinkled with aromatic herbs.
  4. The dish is prepared for 80-90 minutes in the pilaf mode or in the “Stew” program.

Instead of plain water, you can fill the ingredients with meat or vegetable broth.

Milk pearl barley porridge

Pearl barley porridge prepared with milk has a particularly rich taste. Ingredients: 2 multi-cups of barley, 3 glasses of filtered water and full-fat milk, 2-2.5 large spoons of sugar, a pinch of table salt.

  1. The cereal should be soaked in cold water for about an hour. Next, the product is washed and sent to the bowl of the “smart pan”.
  2. Both types of liquid are poured from above.
  3. The mass is salted and sugared.
  4. The products are thoroughly mixed. The dish is prepared in the “Milk porridge” mode.

The treat is served with a piece of butter.

  1. The cereal is filled with cold water.
  2. Pieces of chicken are placed in the oiled bowl of the device and fried in hot oil.
  3. Next, chopped vegetables are added to the meat. Together, the products are cooked for 8-9 minutes in frying mode. Onions and carrots simmered in chicken fat turn out especially soft and aromatic.

Cooking method:

  2. Cut the meat into cubes, not very large, and place in a greased bowl.
  3. Fry the meat for about 15 minutes until browned, stirring constantly.
  4. While the meat is frying, cut the onion into half rings.
  5. Wash the carrots, peel them, cut into strips.
  6. Add vegetables, seasonings and salt to the meat, stir and sauté for 5 minutes.
  7. Place pearl barley prepared in advance on top of the contents of the multicooker, pour in hot water, select the “Pilaf” mode, cook for 90 minutes.
  8. 20 minutes before readiness, add washed but unpeeled heads of garlic to the swollen cereal.
