Mochaccino (moccaccino or mochaccino) is a very popular and tasty coffee drink. America is considered its homeland. In this country, mochaccino is often called "mocha". This name of the drink comes from the fact that previously only a certain Arabic type of coffee – mocha – was used to prepare it.
Then they began to use any types of ground or bean coffee for mochaccino. And the word “mochaccino” was first coined by the Italians. Mochaccino is a latte with hot chocolate (chocolate latte).
Varieties of mochaccino
There are different ways to prepare the drink, but the basis is the same.
American
The American recipe only calls for:
- espresso brewed from the Mocha variety;
- chocolate syrup;
- whipped cream (for decoration).
European
European versions of the drink are numerous, because... baristas from these countries tend to experiment. The standard composition is:
- strong coffee (not only Arabica varieties are allowed);
- melted chocolate (chocolate syrup), cocoa;
- milk (the volume of product in the drink is 2 times more than in the American recipe);
- whipped cream;
- various decorations (caramel, chopped nuts, etc.).
The quantity and volume of ingredients are not strictly regulated, so the flavors of coffee and the options for its preparation vary.
Ice mocha
To prepare iced mocha, use the same ingredients as in the main recipe. There are only two differences in preparation:
- the milk is whipped not with a cappuccino maker, but with a blender so that it does not heat up;
- After preparing the coffee, cool it slightly, then pour it into a shaker filled with ice cubes and shake for 20–40 seconds (the ice should not melt rapidly). The coffee is strained and then poured over the melted chocolate.
Calorie content and composition
The calorie content of the drink depends on:
- amount of sugar;
- fat content of milk;
- volume of additional ingredients.
There is an average of 289 kcal per 100 g of coffee; a mochaccino made in a coffee maker contains about 250 kcal. If you prepare the drink yourself, the figure will rise to 350 kcal.
To reduce the calorie content of the drink, you should avoid adding cream and use skim milk.
Nutritional value of the product:

Moccaccino consists of several layers and looks very impressive, so the drink is prepared in tall transparent glasses. If the moccacino is warm, the glass is heated; for iced mocha, it is cooled.
Main differences from other drinks
Not all lovers of sweet coffee drinks distinguish mochaccino from cappuccino, latte or mocha.
From latte
The difference between the drinks is the amount of coffee and chocolate added. In mochaccino the volume of these ingredients is greater. A classic latte contains well-frozen milk and a little coffee.
From cappuccino
These coffee recipes differ in the amount of milk added. In mochaccino its amount is 2 times greater. Additionally, the latter includes chocolate or syrup. Cappuccinos are rarely topped with whipped cream, but are sometimes topped with chopped nuts, cinnamon or chocolate chips.
From mocha
Mocha is the type of coffee bean from which this drink was originally prepared. It is incorrect to call a finished product that way.
History of appearance
The mochaccino is believed to have originated in North America; initially this drink was made for those who were not delighted with the tart taste of espresso. This drink is also called “Ladies' coffee” , since it is preferred by the fairer sex, regardless of age.
Today this drink is distributed all over the world, but perhaps most of all, residents of North America and Europe enjoy it. However, the name of the drink in Europe and America is different. Thus, Americans call the drink “mocha,” while Europeans most often use the word “mochaccino.”

- 30 ml melted chocolate.
Place ice cream in the bottom of a tall, thick glass. Top it with chocolate, previously mixed with milk. The last layer is espresso.
Note: Mochaccino is traditionally served in glass glasses or tumblers. The components of the drink are added sequentially and, if executed perfectly, its layering will be visible in the container. If the recipe requires mixing the ingredients, the drink can be served in regular cups.
Tips and tricks
To make the drink multi-layered, the ingredients should not be poured in a thin stream. To create defined boundaries between components, you can use a wide-bladed knife, a silicone spatula, or a spoon. The liquid is poured over them slowly from a small height, having previously leaned the base of the instrument against the wall of the vessel.
To create a beautiful image, you can use a stencil and powder. With their help, you can apply a pattern or inscription to the surface of the coffee.
