Homemade popcorn: making the famous popcorn at home

Popcorn has long become popular all over the world and has won the love of millions of people.
This dish consists of grains of a certain type of corn, subjected to heat treatment. Due to exposure to high temperature (about 200 degrees), the liquid starch inside the grain explodes its shell, forming a foamy bulk mass that instantly hardens. The calorie content of “pure” corn without additives is 300 kcal per 100 g, and with the inclusion of additional ingredients it can reach up to 500 kcal. This airy delicacy is immediately associated with relaxing in the park or going to the cinema. But often not entirely healthy components are added to its composition, so many people began to make their own popcorn at home. It's very simple and fast, and most importantly - harmless. Let's look step by step and with photos at how to make popcorn at home in several ways.

Ingredients:

  • Dried corn grains (popcorn) – 50 – 80 gr. (3 - 4 tbsp.),
  • Vegetable oil (or butter) - 2 - 3 tbsp.,
  • Powdered sugar or salt - to taste,
  • Spices (for example, vanilla or cinnamon) - to taste.

At home, popcorn can be prepared in 3 different ways:

It must be remembered that only grains of a special variety of corn, which is grown only for these purposes, are suitable for making popcorn.

Making popcorn on the stove:

  1. Pour a little vegetable oil into a deep saucepan or frying pan.
  2. Pour the corn kernels into the pan and stir so that each kernel is covered with a film of oil.
  3. All grains should lie on the frying pan in one row and touch one side to the metal of the frying pan or pan - this will guarantee that all the grains will open.
  4. Cover the frying pan with a lid and place on high heat.
  5. Once the oil is hot enough, within 3 to 4 minutes, the grains will begin to explode under the lid, releasing the tender and fluffy core.
  6. After the process has begun, you can keep the frying pan on the fire for another minute, and then remove it from the stove and leave it under the lid for another couple of minutes - the hot oil will continue to “burst” the corn.
