Especially if you cook them with your favorite traditional fillings.
The tastiest fillings are those with the addition of cheese, since the combination of cheese and ham is very popular. Who doesn’t love this taste, and it is found in salads, pies, and on simple breakfast sandwiches. There can also be vegetable variations or spicy ones with the addition of garlic. The ham also needs to be cut very thinly, otherwise the rolls will unroll and you will have to fasten them with a toothpick or canapé skewer. However, it is rolls on skewers that can play the role of canapés, but then they should be smaller. Each roll will have to be cut into 2-3 pieces so that a piece can fit into your mouth at a time.
You can cut the ham yourself with a very sharp wide knife or ask the store to cut it on a slicer, a special tool for cutting very thin slices. If this is difficult to do, then look for sliced ham, which is sold in vacuum packaging, then all you have to do is open it and wrap the filling.

Tips for making ham rolls
The spectacular design of a snack dish is the result of the correct selection of the appropriate filling, following several useful recommendations:
- High calorie foods can significantly reduce the use of fresh or canned vegetables. The dietary value of food depends on the skillful use of additional components of the dish.
- To get tasty and appetizing rolls, it is better to choose boiled-smoked, dry-dried/raw-smoked or boiled varieties of ham. Be sure to pay attention to the quality of the product - moderate humidity and attractive appearance.
Tips for making ham rolls - The method of cutting the ham is of great importance when forming products. If your kitchen appliances do not include a special knife for making thin slices, it is better to buy a package with neatly separated slices. Such layers roll up easily and do not crack.
- The filling for the rolls can be used in a variety of variations: greens, cheese, nuts, vegetables, mushrooms, prunes or boiled eggs. In this case, the filling components must be cut as finely as possible, obtaining something like a large pate.
- The volume of filling should be small so that it remains inside the roll. Place it in the center or on the edge of the bacon layer.
- Thin-cut meat products usually hold up quite well. To further secure the rolls, you need to stock up on short sticks for canapés, Chechil cheese “strings”, toothpicks or green onions in advance. Such natural elements can not only be eaten with pleasure, but also used to decorate a dish in an original way.

It’s rare that a holiday table is complete without beautiful cuts of meat from various varieties of sausages.
Anyone can cut sausage into pieces, but slicing it thinly is an art that only experienced housewives with certain skills and knowledge can do.
You can also buy ready-cut sausage, but not everyone trusts that the expiration date is observed in the store, and professional slicers that will cut it right in front of you are not available in all supermarkets.
But what if this knowledge is not available? How to thinly slice sausage without spoiling a rather expensive product?
There are several ways, which we will now tell you about, to correctly and beautifully cut sausages into thin slices.
Ideally, to cut sausage, use a special home slicer, also called a slicer.
But not every kitchen has it, but only those who really connoisseurs of various sandwiches have it, who know how to cut cold cuts, as well as cheese and some other products.
How to thinly slice sausage using other devices?
Manual vegetable shredders are found much more often on the farm.
The skin of the sausage is removed before slicing, because removing the skin from each slice is quite tedious, and the slice can be damaged.
Cool the sausage thoroughly, preferably in the freezer, until it becomes hard and, using a grater to cut the potatoes into slices for chips, you will get smooth, surprisingly neat ovals.
If you don’t have such a device in your kitchen, then you can beautifully cut the sausage on the table using a knife, trying to cut each slice slightly obliquely - as if diagonally.
The knife should be wide, have a thin blade and be very sharp. You can use a serrated knife.
The sausage also needs to be well cooled in the refrigerator; soft foods are difficult to cut, and the knife should be lubricated with odorless vegetable oil. Then, slowly cut the sausage into even thin slices.
A knife lubricated with oil will glide well and allow you to make beautiful cuts on the table, which will be no different from store-bought cuts made using industrial slicers.
It is much harder to cut raw smoked sausage. Think, maybe it makes sense to abandon it at the holiday table in favor of boiled-smoked one?
To serve, you don't have to just place slices of sausage on a plate.
You can roll the thinly sliced sausage into a ball and put an olive or olive inside. Use skewers or toothpicks to hold the slices together so they don't unravel.
Wishing you beautiful sausage cuts and other holiday dishes!

- Peel the avocado. To do this, you need to cut off the top part of the alligator pear and use the tip of the knife to pull the skin down. Ripe fruit is easy to handle, but unripe fruit will have to be treated like potatoes - just cut off the peel.

General principles of slicing
Grinding food is often considered a minor operation, and completely in vain. Correctly executed cutting not only makes dishes attractive, but also affects their taste. Thinly sliced sujuk allows you to distinguish a bouquet of exquisite spices. In Solyanka, chopped meat products give their flavor to the broth, while large ones retain it.
Cooks have come up with many cutting methods for a variety of products, but not all of them are applicable to sausages. Sausage can be cut:
- large pieces (domestic varieties of poultry or meat);
- round or elongated slices (for sandwiches and as an independent snack);
- cubes or straws (for salads and soups).
The festive table is often decorated with figures of ham or sausages. They can consist of several pieces or be skillfully carved images. The theme can be any: wedding, hearts in honor of Valentine's Day, New Year's decorations. From small slices you can create a beautiful mosaic.
This spectacular appetizer has become one of the most popular culinary hits at buffets and holiday tables. Ham rolls delight in their ease of preparation, as well as the ability to use a variety of fillings and create luxurious decorations for meat compositions.

A bright combination of greens and meat always looks beautiful, so use sprigs of curly parsley and dill for decoration. Insert them inside or between the rolls. Thin feathers of green onions can be tied around the appetizer so as not to be stabbed with skewers. Only long feathers are suitable for this purpose; wrap them around the roll and tie it with a bow.
Cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, and red and yellow bell peppers can be used to create an impressive appetizer platter. Cut the vegetables into beautiful slices and then place them on a platter. If you have special blades for vegetable cutting, then use them for decoration. And finally, when you don’t want to bother at all, you can decorate the dish beautifully with the help of olives. Attach them to skewers or toothpicks of rolls, the appetizer will immediately be transformed.

Cutting with a sharp knife
If you don't have a slicer at home, you can cut sausages using a sharp knife. It is very important to maintain the correct position of your fingers, otherwise you can cut yourself. On culinary websites you can see photographs and even video tutorials that demonstrate in detail the cutting process performed by experienced chefs.
One of the main rules when cutting sausage by hand is to use a very well-sharpened knife. This will create perfectly even pieces. Before slicing, the sausage is cleaned, placed on a board and the shape of future pieces is chosen. If you want the slices to be perfectly round, the knife must be held strictly perpendicular to the sausage; to obtain elongated pieces, the tool must be placed at an angle.
It is convenient to cut large loaves of boiled sausage in half. This will allow you to achieve an even cut and avoid distortions or unnecessary waste. If you are going to serve several types of sausages on one plate, you should make sure that the thickness of the slices is the same.

Master class on how to thinly slice ham for rolls
In preparing a delicious cold appetizer, its elegant presentation and spectacular serving, the correct processing of the meat component of the dish is of decisive importance.
How to slice a whole piece of ham as thinly as possible:
- We place the product on the board. Using a large, sharp knife, separate two layers from the thin side of the product. In this way we create a “supporting” basis for working with ham.
- We turn the piece, place it on the formed flat part, and start cutting from the sharp, so-called conical side. Holding the meat with a squandering (two-pronged) fork, with a little effort we direct the long blade deep into the meat piece. Separate thin slices, reaching with a knife to the heel bone.
- When the layers are formed, they must be freed from the bone. To do this, we make a deep cut, guiding the knife parallel to the bone. We continue the process, placing the separated plates on a plate.
How to thinly slice layers from the “tail” of meat:
- The initial steps are no different from the previous cutting method. We also separate the layer from the side of the thin part of the ham.
- Then we “put” it on an educated basis. We start the process from a narrower section of the meat piece, cutting into thin slices.
- We process the second side of the ham in a similar way.
How to cut meat into halves:
- We divide the piece down to the bone, release some of the pulp, and chop the layers into quarters. At the same time, we direct the knife from top to bottom.
- Next, we cut the meat closer to the bone itself, separating the resulting slices.
How to cut a spiral ham:
- Place the piece on the board so that the cut side is on top. We form the slices by guiding the knife along the natural muscle lines, moving around the entire bone.
- We continue slicing the next muscle section and get some more slices.
- Finally, we cut the layers along the bone. We empty it completely and lay out the last portions of thin sheets of delicious ham.
The whole job didn't take much time. As a result, we have prepared the basis for preparing elegant rolls and have an additional element to the meat plate.

Slicing sausage with a slicer
In supermarket displays you can often see perfectly even slices of sausage in vacuum packaging or trays covered with cling film. In most cases, slicers installed directly in the sausage departments of stores are used to prepare such cuts.
Slicers (the word comes from the English slice - slice, which is why it is also called a slicer) are created specifically for quickly slicing products in large volumes. An electric knife can be stationary or manual. But in both cases, it makes it possible to very thinly slice raw smoked sausage, sujuk, cheese, as well as bread and vegetables.
Electric assistants vary in power (more powerful devices can cope with solid products and require less cooling breaks). The blades can also be different. Budget models use straight ones, while more expensive ones use wavy ones. The second type is more durable and holds an edge longer, providing ideal cut quality.
Using a slicer, you can cut sausage into thin slices (and the thickness of the slices can be set before slicing), and also chop it to make a salad or okroshka. In most models, you can set not only the thickness, but also the cutting angle.

Spectacular rolls, easily and quickly made from ham, can be decorated with different fillings. What could be simpler for a festive feast than an exquisitely executed meat appetizer with a tender, satisfying and very appetizing filling made from a variety of ingredients.
Shredding on a grater
Many modern graters have a specially sharpened attachment designed for sausages. Shredding will take much less time than cutting with a knife, so this method is often used in preparation for large feasts - anniversaries, weddings.
It can be difficult to get even slices even with a sharp blade. However, there is a little trick: the sausage is slightly frozen before slicing. This ensures higher speed and excellent quality – with virtually no waste.
The shredder is not suitable for all varieties: if there are large pieces of lard in the minced meat, they may fall out. In this case, it is better to put the grater aside and pick up a knife.
