For Americans, waffles are a popular breakfast or lunch item. Europeans also took a new look at the delicacy. At the beginning of the 20th century, ice cream manufacturers noticed that thin wafers were an excellent packaging material. From then to this day, they can often be found in tandem with ice cream.

Waffles were also popular in the USSR. They were produced on an industrial scale, were inexpensive, and therefore were frequent guests on the tables of Soviet people. The first waffle cakes appeared in the USSR, which were decorated with chocolate or condensed milk cream. After cardboard, ice cream in a waffle cup created a real sensation.

Today, waffles are baked in both fast food and luxury restaurants. They are most often served with a sweet filling, but you can also find more creative and exotic options. They are still in demand, loved and relevant.

If we talk about the smell, then it is certainly there, but it is not particularly noticeable, but when cooking, waffles can absorb this “aroma” of rubber and at first become stale.

And now about waffle irons

A waffle iron is a frying pan or an entire household appliance designed for baking waffles. Today there are three main types of waffle irons:

  • for cooking on gas stoves (old models, most often made of cast iron);
  • electric waffle irons;
  • forms for baking in the oven (for example, made of silicone).

Homemade waffles in an electric waffle iron

All waffle irons have the same operating principle - dough is poured into their cell molds, baked, after which the finished waffles can be taken out (this is convenient to do with a fork) and sent to the next batch. The taste of the waffles will not be affected by which waffle iron you baked them in. Rather, how comfortable the housewife will be in baking dessert depends on them: in retro waffle irons you need to constantly monitor the process, electric models are more convenient in this regard, and silicone molds are the most budget-friendly of all options. The ingredients for desserts are no different: the waffle recipe for a Soviet waffle iron can be used for a silicone mold, and the waffle recipe for an electric waffle iron can be used for cast-iron retro models.

But what you should really pay attention to when choosing is the cells of the waffle iron:

Then we turn it over, remove the semi-finished waffles from the mold, transfer them to a baking sheet with parchment and finish baking for 8 minutes at the same temperature - 220 degrees.

These are the beautiful waffles you get. From this quantity I got 15 waffles.
