Greek salad dressing

Let's start with the classics, this dressing is ideal for Greek salad, for various types of pasta, vegetable salads, fish or meat, and it also makes a wonderful marinade due to the light tart aroma of olive oil.

To prepare it you need (you end up with a glass of dressing):

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced;
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard;
  • 1/2 cup olive oil;
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice;
  • 1/2 tsp. Sahara;
  • 5 tbsp. wine vinegar;
  • salt, basil leaves and oregano (1/2 tsp each) as desired.

Mix all ingredients in a container convenient for you, you can use a jar with a lid, close the lid and shake.

If you want the sauce to be foamy, then first, beat all the ingredients except the oil in a blender for literally 10 seconds, and then slowly pour in the oil.

Useful tips! This dressing can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. The wine vinegar and oil will separate, just stir the sauce again. If the oil hardens, remove the dressing from the refrigerator before serving.

A little about the beneficial properties of the plant

Mustard is a spicy, sweet-tasting spice that occupies an important place in the recipes of many national cuisines. Due to the taste of this seasoning, dishes become more interesting; it can be used as a component for different types of meat, fish, or simply spread on baked goods and served with soup.

In addition to its taste, mustard has properties that have a beneficial effect on the human body. Whole grains of the plant contain microelements: calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, iron, and also vitamins: B, C, E, PP. Mustard is good in the fight against microbes, has an antifungal effect, and relieves inflammatory processes. The spice is recommended to be consumed when cold weather sets in and colds begin to attack. It will help with severe cough and laryngitis, is used as a warming compress and a local irritant, and increases blood flow in the body.

This spice also has contraindications. Mustard should not be consumed in large portions, as it has scalding properties and can harm the mucous membrane of the digestive organs. You should not eat it if you have hypertension or heart disease. The spice is contraindicated for people with gastritis and ulcers. Remember that excessive use of seasoning can make you feel worse. Shortness of breath, bradycardia and even loss of consciousness may occur!

Cooking features

Mustard dressing can replace mayonnaise when preparing a wide variety of dishes, including salads. Its taste is pleasant and unusual, it gives new shades to snacks. Sometimes it completely changes the taste of familiar dishes. But unlike mayonnaise, which you can buy at any grocery store, you have to make mustard dressing yourself. This process is simple, but requires knowledge of some subtleties.

  • Mustard dressing can be prepared on the basis of mustard seeds or mustard powder, but most often ready-made mustard sauce is used as a basis. It could be Dijon mustard or a canteen called “Russian”. They differ in appearance, taste, and degree of spiciness. These ingredients are not interchangeable.
  • The ingredients included in the dressing must be stirred thoroughly so that it acquires a smooth consistency. This can be achieved with a whisk or even a tablespoon, but if necessary, it is not forbidden to use a mixer or blender.
  • The taste of the finished dressing is largely determined by the spices and herbs included in its composition. It is imperative to follow the proportions when preparing this sauce. If the ratio of components is violated, the result may still be quite good, but still the taste and aroma of the sauce will not be identical to the original.
