Useful tips and tricks

Crab stick soup can have a variety of bases. It is typically cooked with vegetable, chicken, or fish broth, but can be seasoned in several ways for a richer flavor.

Type of fillingCompoundWhat's the best way to make soup with it?
TomatoFry the onion, celery and garlic for a few minutes, then add white wine, tomato sauce and seasonings. Simmer until thickened for about 6-7 minutes, then mix with broth. It is recommended to puree this aromatic dressing until smooth (you can use an immersion blender or food processor for this).
CreamyMelt a few tablespoons of butter in a soup pot and add flour to create a roux base.
Then slowly add milk and/or cream in small portions, whisking thoroughly after each addition.
You can add soft creamy or finely grated hard cheese to this base, melt it and stir until smooth.

Other helpful tips and tricks for making crab soup include:

  • Once the broth and base are prepared, they must be mixed in a saucepan and all other ingredients should be added. Leeks, corn kernels and any vegetables are most often added to soup with crab sticks (carrots, celery, young green peas, asparagus and various sprouts are best for this dish).
  • Together, you can use fresh kernels instead of frozen or canned corn. To do this, you will need to cut the grains from the cobs, peel them from the films, put them in the soup and cook until they become soft.

  • Even if the soup consists of completely ready-to-eat components, it is recommended to cook it after mixing them for 7-8 minutes so that the tastes and aromas penetrate each other well enough.
  • To add color, you can add soy sauce.
  • Instead of crab sticks, natural canned or fresh crab meat can be added to any recipe. It is recommended to use 200 g of natural product instead of 240 g of imitation product.
  • You can always use chicken or vegetable broth instead of water.

Serve crab stick soup, prepared according to any recipe, preferably with warm bread or a country baguette. If desired, you can garnish it with chopped green onions and/or fried garlic cloves.
