Carrot chips are a natural product that will be a healthy snack between meals or while watching an interesting movie. Cooking them is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. The key is to choose carrots that are great for storing and to slice them fairly thin so they dry out quickly and become crispy.

Juicy types of carrots should not be used for snacks, as they need to be dried for a long time and do not always make a crispy snack. Aromatic herbs and seasonings will give the chips a more pronounced taste. By preparing a carrot snack in the oven, you can significantly reduce the calorie content of the finished product. Therefore, even people on a diet can use it in small quantities.

Preparation

Before making carrot chips, you need to wash the carrots thoroughly. Remove contaminated skins and rinse under running water. Prepare the necessary herbs, spices and salt.

Place the carrot slices in a bowl, add salt and pepper, add herbs and spices and mix thoroughly so that each slice is well soaked. If liquid forms at the bottom of the bowl, it must be drained.

Line a baking sheet with parchment and lay out the slices. It is necessary to maintain some distance between them so that they dry evenly. Cook carrot chips in the oven at a temperature of no more than 100 degrees, about 1.5 - 2 hours. Ready-made snacks should be completely dry and crispy.

Cooking tips

Carrots from last year's harvest are great for making crispy chips, as they are drier and do not require long drying in the oven.

In addition to the oven, you can use the microwave to prepare snacks. With its help you can significantly reduce the time it takes to make chips.

To change the taste of carrot snacks, you can use the following ingredients:

  • hot red pepper;
  • dried oregano;
  • thyme;
  • sage.

Let's start with a recipe for vegetable potato chips. We take 5-6 medium potatoes, which must be smooth, regular in shape and without damage. Peel and cut them into thin circles, rinse under water to get rid of excess starch. Dry them well on a paper towel, transfer them to a deep bowl, lightly salt them, and sprinkle with vegetable oil. Carefully stir the slices so that they are completely covered with oil and are not damaged. Line a baking tray with baking paper, lightly coat with oil and lay out the potato slices. Preheat the oven to 180–200 °C and bake the chips until golden brown. At the end, sprinkle them with salt and spices and treat them to the household.

Nothing but good

For children, you can prepare vegetable chips in the microwave, using the same potatoes. The recipe remains unchanged, only place the dish with potato slices in the microwave, setting the power to 600–750 W. It will take 5-7 minutes for the chips to brown. You can also offer zucchini chips to little gourmets. Cut a small fruit weighing 200–350 g into circles 1–1.5 mm thick, blot with a paper towel and dry. Brush each slice with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, ground basil, red pepper or coriander. Although vegetable chips for children can do without spices. Place the slices on a large dish and microwave them for 5 minutes at maximum power. They can be supplemented with sour cream and dill sauce.

Crispy sweets

Another great recipe for vegetable chips in the oven is made from carrots and beets. Peel and cut medium beets and carrots into thin slices, rinse them under water and dry. First, place beet slices on a baking sheet with parchment paper, coat each with sunflower oil and sprinkle with spices to your taste. Bake the chips at 165°C for 20 minutes, then turn them over and put them in the oven for another 20 minutes. We do the same with carrot slices, but reduce the baking temperature to 135 °C. This treat will especially appeal to those with a sweet tooth. In addition, it is incredibly useful thanks to a powerful dose of carotene, which makes vision sharper and the heart stronger.

Beetroot chips Carrot chips Potato chips

I decided to share the recipe here and tell you how to cook vegetable chips in the oven and got thinking. Well, who doesn't love chips? And I realized that I had never met such people! I also really love chips, but before I learned this recipe, I ate them extremely rarely, due to their terrible calorie content and harmfulness.

Everything changed when we tried dried vegetable chips at a friends place. I loved their taste so much! I also really liked the fact that these chips are low in calories and you can eat as many of them as you want!

I looked for such chips in stores for a long time, but I never found the ones I tried. Of course, vegetable chips made from beets and carrots are sold, but, firstly, they cost several times more than regular potato chips, and, secondly, they are fried in a huge amount of oil and they are as high in calories as potato chips. But it doesn't suit me.

Therefore, I decided to make vegetable chips myself. The recipe is very simple, and also absolutely inexpensive, and the chips turn out very tasty, crispy and, most importantly, not harmful and low in calories!

Vegetable chips in the oven. Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Beets - 3 pcs. (medium or small)
  • Carrots - 1 pc. (large)
  • Potatoes - 1 pc. (large)
  • Olive oil for frying - 2 - 3 tablespoons
  • Salt and other spices - to taste

Preparation:

We clean the vegetables, wash them and cut them on a special grater into very thin slices 1 - 2 mm thick. The thinner the better. On my grater I get slices 2 mm thick.

Beetroot chips

Oven-cooked beet chips are our favorite, and they even beat potato chips.

Preheat the oven (I have a gas oven) to 160 degrees. If you cook in an electric oven, then the temperature should be 10 - 20 degrees lower, i.e. the electric oven needs to be heated to 140 - 150 degrees.

Cover a baking sheet with baking paper (parchment), grease the parchment with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and place the beet slices on it. For those who like salty chips, the slices can be salted and sprinkled with other favorite seasonings before putting them in the oven. We don’t season it with anything, it’s already very tasty for us.

Place the baking sheet with the beets in the oven on the top level for about 30 - 35 minutes.

It is difficult to indicate the exact cooking time for chips, as it depends on the thickness of the slices and the oven. But I quickly got the hang of it and only ruined the first batch of beets, because I pulled the baking sheet out of the oven too early, and the chips turned out kind of soft.

Then, during cooking, I simply began to check the readiness of the chips several times; they should be almost hard. And not completely hard and crispy (in this case, I pulled out already burnt chips from the oven), but slightly soft - no problem, they will “reach” on the plate and dry out.

After 30 - 35 minutes, turn the chips over, leave the baking sheet on the top level and leave them for another 30 - 35 minutes.

When the beet slices are almost dry, take them out of the oven and place them on a napkin to remove excess oil.

Carrot chips

Peel the carrots, wash them and cut them into slices. Place on parchment greased with olive oil, but bake on the top level at a temperature of approximately 120 degrees in a gas oven or at 100 - 110 degrees in an electric oven.

In terms of time, cook until dry, about 30 - 35 minutes on each side. And just like with beet chips, when we turn the chips over, we leave the baking sheet on the top level so that they don’t burn, but dry out.

Chips for losing weight

Diet chips are not science fiction, but a very real and very interesting snack. Try vegetable crisps without spinach oil and see for yourself. We wash 200 g of spinach under water, separate it into leaves and dry it. Arrange them evenly on a baking sheet lined with thick parchment paper. Sprinkle the spinach with salt, pepper and dried basil and place it in an oven preheated to 180°C for 7-8 minutes. Let the chips cool thoroughly and only then separate them from the parchment. Dietary vegetable spinach chips pleasantly diversify the menu of those who meticulously monitor proper nutrition. A serving of such a snack will replenish iron reserves in the body, raise its tone, and at the same time strengthen the heart and blood vessels.

Minimum program

A few tricks will help you make vegetable chips truly tasty and appetizing. The slices need to be cut as thin as possible. A wide, sharp knife or a special vegetable cutter will help us with this. Spices will give the chips a more expressive aroma: a mixture of hot peppers, paprika or Provençal herbs. It is best to cook vegetable chips in an air fryer, dehydrator, dehydrator or oven. For baking, choose parchment paper - vegetable slices practically do not stick to it. To ensure that the chips bake evenly and turn out golden brown, crispy and beautiful, place them on a baking sheet so that they do not touch each other. And don't forget to turn them over periodically. And unless, of course, your family eats it in one go, you should store the treat in a plastic container in a cool, dry place.

Spices for joy

Gourmets who gravitate towards brighter flavor combinations can prepare spicy eggplant chips. For them we need a marinade. Mix 3 tbsp. l. balsamic vinegar and olive oil, add a clove of chopped garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Cut 2 eggplants into thin slices, place them in a bowl, fill them with marinade and put them in the refrigerator for 10 hours. Gently stir the slices every 2 hours. Then place them on a baking sheet with baking paper, pour over the marinade and place in the oven at 150°C for 50–60 minutes. Serve ready-made spicy vegetable chips with sour cream or tomato sauce. Just don’t overfeed your household with such a snack. Despite all its usefulness, it is quite high in calories.
