DIY date and nut candies - recipe with photos

Date candies

Many of us love candy, but if you read their composition, it leaves much to be desired. I offer you an excellent replacement for store-bought sweets - these are healthy and tasty date sweets. They cook very quickly.

Ingredients:

  • Dates (soft, pitted) - 200 g
  • Bitter chocolate – 80 g
  • Oat flakes – 15 g
  • Coconut flakes - 15 g

For sprinkling:

  • coconut flakes
  • Cocoa powder

Step-by-step recipe with photos:

Pour coconut and oatmeal into the pan.

Fry them until lightly browned over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Pour the fried ingredients into a blender bowl and grind until finely crumbled.

Pour out the dates, which have been washed, dried and pitted in advance.

Melt chocolate (I use bitter chocolate) in any way convenient for you. Instead of bitter chocolate, you can use milk chocolate, but then the candies will be much sweeter. Pour the melted chocolate over the dates and chop.

The output is a homogeneous thick mass that sticks a little to your hands.

Let's start forming date sweets. From the resulting mass we make balls the size of a walnut. If necessary, wet your palms with water.

Roll the balls in coconut or a small amount of cocoa powder. Or it can be both. Place on a dish and put in the refrigerator for 40-60 minutes, during which time the candies will “set”. You need to store them in the refrigerator, but I think they won’t stay there for long.

Delicious date chocolates are ready. Treat yourself to healthy sweets!

How to prepare “Date and Nut Sweets” step by step with photos at home

Step 1

To make sweets from dates and walnuts, we will prepare all the necessary ingredients: dates, nuts and cocoa. Separate 100 grams of nuts for filling, and leave the remaining 50 for breading.

Step 2

Date fruits (200 g) need to be soaked in hot water for 10 minutes to make it easier to separate the peel from the pulp.

Step 3

After the time has passed, peel the dates, carefully so as not to remove the pulp along with the peel.

Step 4

Let's move on to grinding: for this you can use a blender or a meat grinder, I used the second one. I recommend that you first chop up some of the nuts for breading (50 g) and separate them, and then do the rest.

Step 5

Add peeled dates to the nuts (100 g). Mix the resulting mass thoroughly, preferably with your hands, because it should be quite dense and it will be difficult to stir with instruments.

Step 6

After this, add cocoa (1 tbsp) and mix again.

Step 7

This is what you should end up with:

Step 8

Prepare the breading. To do this, we first crushed the nuts in a meat grinder or blender, but you can crush the nuts manually using improvised means - then the pieces will turn out to be larger.

Step 9

We form balls from the prepared candy filling and roll them in nut breading.

Step 10

These are the delicious sweets we should get. In order for them to harden a little, you can leave them in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Homemade sweets with dates and nuts with cocoa are ready! Bon appetit!

A little about the amazing carob

This recipe uses carob powder to add chocolate flavor. Unlike cocoa, it is sweet in itself. Therefore, you don’t have to add additional honey or other sweets.

In addition, carob is lower in calories. It's all about lower fat content - only 0.7 g in carob versus 17.5 g in cocoa.

The calorie content of carob is 222 kcal (per 100 g). For cocoa powder this figure is 374 kcal

The chemical composition of carob is rich and varied. The following components are present here:

  • vitamins of groups B, C, E, PP and others;
  • mineral components (calcium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, etc.);
  • water;
  • alimentary fiber;
  • ash;
  • some saturated fatty acids.

And there is no fromamine in carob, so it does not have the allergenicity that is characteristic of plain chocolate. Since carob does not contain phenylethylamine (found in regular chocolate), it does not cause migraines.

Therefore, we can say with confidence that carob is a worthy substitute for cocoa. The so-called “healthy chocolate”.

By comparison, cocoa powder contains theobromine and caffeine (tonics) and phenylephylamine (antidepressants). In general, it has a complex chemical composition. And it has an amazing property: it can improve mood and also increase vitality. But there is also a “other side of the coin”: cocoa powder can provoke an allergic reaction.

In addition, carob can be eaten without pre-processing. Well, cocoa seeds must be processed and roasted, and only then do they become edible.

Secrets of making Bliss candies

  • I recommend using royal dates. They are usually sold in a cardboard box. These dates are large and their skin is not dried out, unlike other varieties.

  • Don't like dates? Then you can make something delicious from bananas and prunes. The amount of ingredients depends on how much candy you are making. For a small amount, it is usually enough to take half a banana and grind it to a puree. Banana puree will give the sweets softness and an amazing flavor. Also take a few prunes. You need to soak it first, otherwise the prunes will be too dry.
  • In general, you have complete freedom of action with the choice of ingredients. That is, you can add whatever you see fit. For example, figs, dried apricots, raisins, etc.

I just have a favor to ask of you. Then write in the comments what ingredients you used and whether you liked the sweets. And share the link to this article with your girlfriends. Surely they have a sweet tooth too. I think they will definitely like this recipe.
