Fragrant orange manna is a delicious low-calorie dessert that bakes easily and quickly. You need very few products for it, and the smell of oranges in the morning will wake up your body and create a great mood for the whole day.
Mannik is a dessert in which wheat flour is completely or partially replaced with semolina. Due to it, the structure becomes more porous, and baked goods acquire a unique taste. There are a lot of recipes for making manna - classic, cottage cheese, fruit, with or without fillings. Orange manna is one of the variations on the theme.
On orange juice
Manna with orange juice is baked using both semolina and wheat flour, they are taken in a 1:1 ratio. The fact is that orange juice is liquid, and to give the dough the necessary consistency, you need to mix flour and semolina.
You can buy orange juice, trying to choose from the offered assortment the one that contains the least amount of sugar and the most natural juice or pulp. This can be difficult to do, but if you are successful, the manna will taste truly orange.
If you wish, you can prepare fresh orange juice yourself. You don’t even have to strain it, the pulp won’t hurt at all, you just need to remove the seeds if they get into the bowl of juice.
During this time, you need to preheat the oven to 180°C. If you use a metal pan for baking, you can heat it in the oven for a couple of minutes. The silicone mold does not need to be preheated. Grease the mold with vegetable or soft butter, sprinkle with semolina and pour the dough into it.
The manna will be ready in 35-45 minutes, depending on the capabilities of the oven. It can be decorated with powdered sugar or icing.
Please note: the recipe does not contain dairy products or eggs; this version of manna with orange juice is a lean, low-calorie dessert.
With orange zest
Another recipe that uses the pulp and zest instead of orange juice.
- First of all, you need to mix 1 tbsp. semolina with the same amount of kefir. Leave for 20-30 minutes. During this time, you can do the rest of the preparations.
- 3 tbsp. l. mix sifted wheat flour with 1 tbsp. l baking powder. Wash one large orange well and dry. Grate on a coarse grater along with the zest. For this purpose, it is better to choose fruits with thin skins.
- 1 tbsp. Mix sugar with a pinch of salt and beat with 2 eggs until a thick foam forms. Add a pinch of cardamom, pour in the semolina-kefir mixture. Add orange pulp and flour with baking powder to the mixture. Mix the dough well with a whisk or mixer.
- Pour the dough into a mold greased with oil and sprinkled with semolina (flour), put in a hot oven (1600).
The pie will be ready in 30 minutes; you can sprinkle powdered sugar on top and decorate it with caramelized oranges or candied fruits.
On kefir
Manna made with kefir turns out tall and fluffy. It can be baked in a large pan, like a pie or cupcake, or you can pour the dough into small molds and bake orange cheesecakes.
Pour the dough into a mold greased with vegetable or butter and place in an oven preheated to 170-180 0 C. It will take 30 - 35 minutes for the manna to bake.
Towards the end of the process, you need to melt a bar of milk chocolate in a water bath, and when the manna is ready, pour it over the dessert and let it cool.
With apples
You will get a very tasty, moist and juicy manna if you bake it with apples.
- Melt ½ stick of butter in the microwave or in a water bath. It should become soft, but not liquid.
- Break 2 eggs into a deep bowl, add 1 tbsp. sugar, mix with a whisk or fork; no need to beat with a mixer.
- Add 1 tbsp. sour cream and melted butter.
- Wash the orange and lemon well, remove the peel in a thin layer and chop it to form a zest. Add it to the dough. Add 1 tbsp. decoys. In this recipe, semolina does not need to be pre-soaked in liquid for swelling. Then you need to mix everything and add 1 tbsp. sifted wheat flour.
- Add a packet of baking powder or 1 tsp. soda, mix quickly, leave the dough for 15 minutes.
- During this time, cut the pulp of a peeled orange and 2-3 large (washed, peeled and freed from seeds and core) apples into small cubes and add to the dough.
Grease the mold with oil, place the dough in it and place in the oven for 30 minutes, bake at 170°C.
You can cut the apples into slices rather than cubes and place them in a circle on top of the dough, pressing them down lightly.
With milk in a slow cooker
It’s not difficult to prepare milk orange manna in a slow cooker.
Grease the multicooker bowl with butter and pour the finished dough into it. Bake the manna in the “Baking” or “Multi-cook” mode for 1 hour. Do not take out the finished pie right away; let it stand for another 10 minutes in the turned off multicooker. You can decorate with melted chocolate, icing, cream.
Secrets of preparing delicious manna
When preparing manna, you should listen to the following recommendations:
- In order for the semolina to rise well during baking, the semolina must swell sufficiently before kneading the dough. To do this, you need to pour the cereal into a bowl and add liquid: milk or kefir.
- If orange juice is added to the dough, then there is no need to quench the soda with vinegar, since the juice contains enough acid.
- Orange manna takes 40-55 minutes to prepare on average. The readiness of the pie is checked with a wooden stick or toothpick.
- Mannik should only be placed in a preheated oven.
- To make the cake more moist, you can additionally soak it in orange syrup after baking.
The main thing is to stick to the recipe, and then there will be no surprises when baking manna.
