When I have sour milk, I bake fluffy manna with syrup from it. This wonderful baked goods made with sour milk won the hearts of my household, and mine too. Easy to bake and tastes great!

Step-by-step preparation

  1. Step 1:

Let's prepare the ingredients for baking manna. Mannik can be baked using only semolina, then the manna will be more tender and crumbly, or you can use semolina and wheat flour in equal parts, the manna will taste more dense. You can use additives such as candied fruits, dried fruits, nuts, berries, pieces of fruit and others to taste.

  2. Step 2:

Place the butter in a bowl and melt it in a water bath or in the microwave. Let the melted butter cool to room temperature.

  3. Step 3:

Add sugar and a pinch of salt to the bowl with butter. Stir the ingredients until the sugar cools completely. You can add sugar and salt to the butter while the butter is warm, then the former will dissolve faster.

  4. Step 4:

Pour the sour milk into another bowl; it should be at room temperature. Pour in the semolina, mix and leave at room temperature for an hour so that the semolina swells well.

  5. Step 5:

In the third bowl, beat the chicken egg with a fork or whisk until the white of the chicken egg is completely dispersed. Pour the melted butter and egg mixture into the bowl with the semolina. Mix.

  6. Step 6:

Add baking powder (baking powder can be replaced with baking soda slaked with vinegar), a pinch of vanillin and add sifted wheat flour if using it for baking. Mix the ingredients thoroughly until the dough is homogeneous in texture, without lumps. It turns out to be a very thick dough.

  7. Step 7:

Grease the baking dish for semolina with oil and sprinkle the bottom and walls with semolina. Pour the dough into it so that it fills the mold no more than halfway. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Bake the manna for about 30 minutes. You can check the readiness of the manna with a wooden skewer. It should come out dry.

  8. Step 8:

Remove the manna from the mold, let it cool on a plate and serve with tea, coffee or cocoa. Bon appetit!

How to make manna from sour milk

  1. Pour the sour milk into a bowl, add semolina and granulated sugar to it. Mix the pie base until all the lumps of semolina become a homogeneous mass.

  2. Add soda, baking powder and vanilla sugar. Baking soda and baking powder will help raise the semolina during baking, so the cake will become fluffy.

  3. Pour melted, but not hot, butter into the dough and mix until smooth.

  4. Let the dough and semolina swell, after 40-50 minutes the cereal will absorb moisture and you can bake from it. The dough will not be very liquid - medium thickness; it should roll off the spoon slowly due to the saturated semolina.

  5. Pour the dough into a suitable form and bake for 40 minutes at 180°C. The cake will rise, become fluffy and rosy. You can check its readiness with a skewer or toothpick. After piercing it should remain clean and dry.

  6. For the sweet syrup, boil water with sugar, squeeze in lemon juice and stir. Cook the filling for 5-10 minutes over low heat.

  7. Pour warm syrup over warm manna. It will soak in perfectly and become even tastier.

  8. Remove the cooled cake from the mold. It turned out very attractive and fragrant.

Cut the manna into portions and serve.

So we have mastered another dessert, not at all expensive financially, in terms of time, and in strength. Ruddy, beautiful and uniform in cut, it will be appreciated by kids who cannot tolerate semolina. After all, a pie is a completely different matter, and even with topping or gravy (you can top it with, for example, grated strawberries, then the pie itself should be baked without syrup and with a small amount of sugar).

If you don’t have sour milk, then kefir is quite suitable for the dough. Not only that: it will work with fermented baked milk and even with water.

You can decorate the finished pie with powdered sugar or a few strawberries, cherries or mint leaves. You can cover it with thinly sliced banana or kiwi slices, and also spread it with chocolate cream or condensed milk. In a word, use your imagination and artistic taste, and then the pie will not only be tasty, but also elegant.

It’s not a shame to lure guests to such a manna!

Has the milk turned sour? We are preparing manna!

Where to properly store sour milk or remaining kefir is a problem usually solved by pancakes and pancakes, or, in extreme cases, by pizza. However, it is still worthwhile to diversify the use of fermented milk products, namely baking. Sour milk will be an excellent basis for making a pie called mannik. So if your milk is sour, don't throw it away - it's a great product for any baked goods and casseroles. As you already understand, we will need semolina, which will make the dough soft and fluffy. Manna is prepared quickly, the main thing is to let the dough sit and let the semolina swell. This pie is baked in the oven, so it must be preheated in advance. Mannik is the best treat for tea, so be sure to please your family with it. A step-by-step recipe with photos will help you.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • sour milk - 300 ml
  • semolina - 200 g
  • premium wheat flour – 150 g
  • baking powder - 10 g
  • sugar - 100 g or more to taste
  • salt - 0.5 tsp.
  • refined sunflower oil - 125 ml
  • chocolate - 90 g

Glaze:

  • chocolate - 90 g
  • cocoa butter (or butter, cream, milk) - 10 g

  • chocolate confectionery topping – 5 g

Is glaze necessary?

Initially, I did not plan to cover the manna with sour milk with anything. But when it was ready and stood cooling, already so red, appetizing and smelling of a cozy home, I wanted to make it even more chocolatey! Therefore, the second “Russian” was used, as well as cocoa butter. I haven't seen it for sale in offline stores. But it is widely represented on online platforms. I bought it at Wildberry. However, you can find a replacement for it, I will indicate this below.
